Proactive replies and welcomes
Let the bot join the chat on its own, within limits you set.
Normally the bot answers when someone asks it. With proactive replies on, it also reads the conversation and joins in when it can genuinely help, and stays quiet when it can't. For the website version (the widget opening by itself), see Widget settings.
How it decides to speak
Every message goes through five checks, and the bot only replies if all five pass:
- Is it turned on?If proactive replies are off, it never joins in. It still answers when mentioned.
- Is the message worth reading?Greetings like "gm", emoji-only messages, very short messages and commands are skipped. On Discord, messages aimed at another member are skipped too.
- Does it need the bot?An AI reads the recent conversation and decides whether a reply would help.
- Has it replied to this person recently?A cooldown stops back-to-back replies to the same member.
- Is there budget left today? Each channel has a daily limit. When it's used up, the bot posts a short sign-off and stays quiet until tomorrow.
Where the settings are
- Business workspaces: BrandingAdvanced.
- Web3 workspaces: SettingsProactive Engagement.
On Telegram, proactive replies need Auto-reply mode on and the bot's privacy mode turned off in BotFather (/setprivacy, then Disable). Otherwise Telegram only shows the bot messages that mention it.
The settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Bot voice | Professional, Friendly, Playful or Chaotic. Same facts, different tone. |
| Confidence threshold | 50% to 95%. Higher means the bot speaks less often. |
| Cooldown | 1 to 60 minutes between replies to the same member. |
| Daily budget | 5 to 100 proactive replies per channel per day. |
| Fun-fact drop rate | 0 to 100. How often it adds a light fun fact when the moment allows. 0 turns it off. |
Welcomes and sign-offs
- New-member welcome (business workspaces): off by default. When on, the bot greets people who join your Discord server or Telegram group. Use
{name}and{server}in your template. - Daily sign-off: sent automatically when the daily budget runs out. It follows the bot voice and can't be edited.
- Sign-off messages: your own lines, used when the bot's reply gets no response before the cooldown ends.
Tuning tips
Too quiet? Lower the confidence threshold. Too chatty? Raise it, or lower the daily budget. Start strict and loosen it once you like what you see.
