Connect your bot

Create a bot with BotFatherIn Telegram, message @BotFather, send /newbot and follow the prompts. It gives you a bot token. This is free.
Paste the tokenOpen Telegramtoken & health, paste the token and save. We check it with Telegram and connect the bot automatically.
Share your botSend people your bot's @username, or add it to your group.

Saving a new token resets the bot's statistics, so you start counting from zero.

Where it answers

In private chats it answers every message. In groups, the Auto-reply mode setting decides:

On: it answers when someone mentions it (@yourbot), and can also join in on its own (see Proactive replies).
Off: it answers every message in the group.

To read group messages without being mentioned, the bot's privacy mode must be off. In BotFather, send /setprivacy, pick your bot and choose Disable.

Built-in commands: /start, /help and /about. Web3 workspaces also get /verify.

Handing over to your team

When the bot can't answer, it says so, logs the question in Unanswered, and offers a Talk to a human button. When someone taps it, the Telegram chats you list as admins get a private alert, and you reply from there. If none are listed, you get an email. Use the test notification button to check the alerts reach you. Members can also type /escalate with a note. More in Talking to a person.

With fun mode on, it gives a clearly labelled best guess instead of a plain "I don't have that".

Tools for running a group

Moderation: a keyword filter, and a warning ladder that mutes, kicks or bans after the number of warnings you set.
Join security: a captcha for new members, a check against a known-spammer list (CAS), and auto-removal of bots that join.
Scheduled messages: post a message or menu to a chat at a set time, once or on repeat.
Menus: rich cards with buttons, opened by a command you choose.
Analytics: answers from your knowledge, unanswered questions and 👍/👎 feedback.

If messages stop arriving

Open Telegramtoken & health and click repair. It reconnects the bot without changing your settings.
Check you didn't create a new token in BotFather. If you did, paste the new one.
Use reset statistics when you want a clean starting point, for example after a campaign.
